Volunteer opportunities at Pattern Rescue
So much to do, so few hands! A lot of the work at Pattern Rescue needs to be done right here, where all the patterns are. But there are plenty of other things waiting to get done, too. Some of those appear below, and we're counting on you to help out if you can.
Some of these tasks are a quick one-time-only project, others are ongoing. Some require special skills or software experience but most don't. If there's something you'd like to help with, please send us an email and we'll get you started!
Round One Beta Testers
- What we need: Testers to be sure the new pages work in different browsers. We'll send you a page address, you look at the page and let us know if there's a problem. Being able to email us a snapshot of the page helpful, but not essential.
- Special notes: Tell us what browser and version you're using. (Not sure? Open your browser, click Help and then About.)
- Commitment: Several requests a week over the next few weeks -- each requiring about 2 minutes to view and report back.
Guest Bloggers
- What we need: Articles for the blog on those days when Jacki can't get to it. Show off the jewel in your collection or something you've made; introduce yourself and tell us what you do; pass on tips for the site, finding patterns, sewing, keeping the cat off the keyboard. Whatever might be of interest!
- Special notes: Photos are nice. Send blog article and photos to photos@patternrescue.com whenever you like.
- Commitment: Write as much and as often as you like.
Counting Bees
- What we need: Folks to count some of the many older patterns we have waiting. We'll mail you a package of 5 to 10 patterns; you count the pieces, record the results and mail them back in a postpaid envelope.
- Special notes: Unprinted patterns are trickier -- let us know if you're familiar and comfortable with them.
- Commitment: One to three hours per batch; turnaround within one week.
Glitchmeisters
- What we need: Two or three volunteers to check and report on broken links and other site problems.
- Special notes: None
- Commitment: One hour or less per week.
Post Monitors
- What we need: Two or three volunteers to handle correspondence on the post item pages and to run certain special searches. One for wanted to buy, one for parts page, maybe one for long-term requests.
- Special notes: The handier you are with a search engine, the better.
- Commitment: Varies -- probably an hour or two a week.
Fill in the Spreadsheet blanks
- What we need: Several volunteers to enter information on incomplete patterns into the database. We'll send you the documents to be entered.
- Special notes: You'll need a Google account (if you have a gmail address, you have one).
- Commitment: An hour here and there.
Price Trend Gurus
- What we need: People with expertise in pricing trends and/or background info on speficic pattern types (so we don't get the pattern points wrong). Tell us what you know!
- Special notes: Folkwear, modern Vogue designer patterns, hot things from the 1960s and 1970s.
- Commitment: An hour or two to start; a few minutes here and there ongoing.
Shop Nanny
- What we need: Background on legislation affecting the sale of children's goods and how major sites like Etsy are responding.
- Special notes: Must be able to dig out official documents.
- Commitment: An hour here and there.
Legal Librarian
- What we need: Copies of select court decisions on cases that have some bearing on our operations.
- Special notes: Access to a law library or online database.
- Commitment: An hour or two once in a while.
Designer Price Checker
- What we need: Someone familiar with the resale prices of modern Designer patterns, especially Vogue patterns.
- Special notes: You'll need a Google account (if you have a gmail address, you have one).
- Commitment: An hour here and there.
This is not a full and final list by any means :-) We'll add more as things come to the top -- and please don't be shy about getting in touch if you can help in some way that's not already posted. Thanks so much!
